A second body has been found in the Makarora River in Otago's Mt Aspiring National Park, close to where another body was found in the water yesterday.

Police believe the two deceased may have been tramping together.

At around 12.30pm today a body was found in the river by a member of the public.

It was not far from where the other body was located at about 5pm yesterday.

The deaths are not being treated as suspicious at this stage, police said.
