Crux is Queenstown Lakes’ and Central Otago's leading local news site, with our journalists continuously providing high-quality public interest journalism and addressing key community issues.

Our stories reach up to 25,000 local residents per day and our weekly newsletter also reaches 5,000 people every Friday. These numbers are continuously growing but our daily audience is often greater than the weekly print runs of local community newspapers.

Our Facebook posts engage with over 50,000 people each week and our video productions can reach up to 35,000 viewers on social media and via the Crux website.

In December 2023, we passed the 5.5 million page view threshold with the average time spent on each page at 2 minutes and 22 seconds. This means that our digital ads are seen for up to ten times longer than other digital platforms that may only have a 20-second average time on page.

In January 2024, Crux news site pages were read over 240,000 times by 106,000 unique users. That's relative to a local population of around 60,000 people. showing that Crux also reaches audiences outside of our immediate district and even Kiwis living overseas. In an average month, our Facebook post reach is over 260,000, with engagement over 110,000.

What’s in store for the rest of 2024? Here's the latest Crux update from our managing editor, Peter Newport.

Our new ad server technology now provides even more display options as well as the ability for the first time to place ads within Crux news stories. Here's the banner dimensions that we work with.

We are liked and trusted by the local community, and our latest reader survey showed over 75% of readers ranked Crux as either Good or Excellent. Via our Community Bulletin, we promote less urgent community stories and events to a wider Crux audience. In a nutshell, Crux is pro-community. We also offer deep discounts on advertising packages for charities and non-profit organisations.

Pro-community doesn’t stop in terms of journalism; it flows into our commercial partnerships. Our Sales Manager, Debbie Knowles, will take the time to get to know each and every one of you and your goals. She'll listen carefully and work with you to create a customised package that will deliver measurable results with digital tracking and detailed reporting on impressions and click through rates.

Get the best out of Crux. Our audience is huge, local – and highly engaged. It’s time to go digital!
