Jane's Guide to the best local breweries

by Jane Guy - Aug 24, 2018

So we all like a drop of the good stuff it seems and it also seems like breweries and craft beer are popping up like pair of bell bottoms in the 60s. Christchurch got on the band wagon and now it seems Queenstown too with three breweries I spied out of my bready eye on the way home from work. Who, where and what are they adding to our town?

Popping up just below the Edith Cavell Bridge in Arthurs Point this is a great edition to the community growing out there. All beers are made on site consisting of a pale ale, a pilsner, an IPA and a Nitro Porter. Limited releases are ‘fly by the seat of their pants’ kinda brews relevant to season and climate. Matching beers to the kitchen. Quality, balance and ingredients supporting New Zealand suppliers.

Searchlight Brewery
A tiny brewery tucked away in Gorge Road Industrial (look for the sign ‘beer’ on the left as you drive in). Serving IPA, Pale Ale, Lager, Saison, Hefeweizen, Porter. These are all approachable beers and their philosophy ‘Seek and Evolve’ means the beers will change and always become more and more adventurous.

Previously brewed out of Christchurch Eddie and Elliot (owners) have now set up a brand spanking new premises in in Frankton Marina which is open now. They are brewing onsite, they will have food, bike rack, tours and tastings, use the space for local clubs and societies to hold meetings and events, and (profess) to the best beer in Queenstown. Go see for yourself!
