Q'town airport first in NZ to pass pre-Covid volumes
Figures released from Queenstown airport show that passenger traffic in September was higher than the same period pre-Covid.
Some 195,782 people travelled through the airport last month compared to 188,904 in September 2019.
No other New Zealand airport has yet passed the equivalent post-Covid milestone.
The numbers were detailed by subscription only tourism industry website Tourism Ticker with no media release or specific website information released by the Queenstown Airport Corporation since the end of September. The information appears on the QAC website here: https://www.queenstownairport.co.nz/facts-figures
The growth was mainly in the domestic tourism market, up by 10,000 passenger movements over September 2019, compared to international passenger movements that were down to 62,000 from 65,000.
The Tourism Ticker website also reported that hotel occupancy in Queenstown had hit 73.8 percent in the week to Saturday September 10, “possibly the highest since the pandemic began outside of the peak summer period”.
