Saturday: 10 deaths, 18,514 new community cases, 939 people in hospital

There have been 10 new deaths of people with Covid-19 reported today, with the number of new community cases rising to 18,514.

In today's statement, the Ministry of Health said there were 939 people in hospital, down slightly from 943 yesterday. There are 24 people in intensive care.

The 10 people who died include one from Northland, three from Auckland, one from Waikato, two from Bay of Plenty, two from the Lakes DHB area, and one from the Wellington region. One was in their 40s, two in their 60s, four in their 80s, and three were in their 90s. Six were women and four were men.

The number of new community cases has risen by more than 4000 from the 14,128 community cases reported yesterday. The Ministry said the seven-day rolling average of cases gave a more reliable indicator of the trend in cases - it is 17,641 today, down from 17,673 yesterday.

After several days of steady falls, the number of new community cases in Auckland increased to 4346 from the 3498 cases reported yesterday.

The remaining cases were in the Northland (643), Waikato (1729), Bay of Plenty (1221), Lakes (541), Hawke's Bay (1108), MidCentral (847), Whanganui (273), Taranaki (601), Tairāwhiti (365), Wairarapa (260), Capital and Coast (1237), Hutt Valley (697), Nelson Marlborough (457), Canterbury (2694), South Canterbury (217), Southern (1224) and West Coast (42) DHBs.

There have also been 45 cases identified at the border.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in New Zealand is now 470,097.

There were 5568 booster doses given yesterday, as well as 264 first doses; 478 second doses; 35 third primary doses; 386 paediatric first doses and 5612 paediatric second doses.
