Monday Weather: Snow for the south

Here's the latest weather warnings from MetService for the South Island:

 

  • Parts of Canterbury and Marlborough: Heavy Snow Watch, until 10pm Sunday. The snowfall amounts could approach warning criteria above about 400m.
  • Parts of Otago, Southland, Stewart Island, and Fiordland: Heavy Snow Watch until 5pm Monday. Snow to low levels, heavy at times above 400m. Frequent showers and strong winds.
  • Dunedin to Waitati Highway, SH1: Road Snowfall Warning until midnight Monday. Snow showers and 1 cm of snow could fall, above about 100m.
  • Lewis Pass, SH7: Road Snowfall Warning until 10pm Sunday
  • Rain turning to snow. Expect up to 15 cm of snow on the road above 800m, with snow falling down to 400m.
  • Arthur's Pass, SH73: Road Snowfall Warning until 8pm Sunday
  • Rain turning to snow. Expect up to 10 cm of snow on the road above about 800m, with snow falling down to 500m.
  • Porters Pass, SH73: Road Snowfall Warning until 8pm Sunday
  • Rain turning to snow. Up to 12cm of snow on the road above about 800m, with snow falling down to 500m.
  • Lindis Pass SH8, Milford Road SH94 and Crown Range Road: Road Snowfall Warning until 6pm, 9pm and 10pm Monday (respectively).
