TVNZ to cut up to 68 jobs in proposed restructure
TVNZ has announced it plans to cut up to 68 jobs in a proposed restrucutre.
It's a net loss of nine percent of its staff, according to RNZ's Mediawatch.
TVNZ chief Jodi O'Donnell told staff on Thursday "tough economic conditions and structural challenges within the media sector" have hit the company's revenue.
A $16.8-million loss was posted for the last six month of 2023.
O'Donnell says "difficult choices need to be made to ensure TVNZ remains sustainable".
"Changes like the ones we’re proposing are incredibly hard, but we need to ensure we’re in a stronger position to transform the business to meet the needs of our viewers in a digital world."
TVNZ says it will move into consultation with staff at TVNZ tomorrow "and the priority will be taking our people through the proposed changes first before we discuss these with media".
