Delays expected for travel between Queenstown and Cromwell

The NZ Transport Agency is warning motorists to allow extra time on their journeys with two months of roadworks about to start.

Travellers between Queenstown and Cromwell this month and next are being warned to allow for roadworks and delays.

Two months of work on State Highway 6, near the Crown Range turnoff, will begin on Tuesday. The road is commonly called the Gibbston highway.

NZTA's maintenance contract manager, Mark Stewart, says the work is needed for safety reasons.

The work will include tree felling, work in the highway shoulders, rebuilding of the road and re-surfacing. It will take place 7am to 5pm weekdays and some Saturdays.

It is expected to be finished in early March.
