Covid-19: Air NZ crew member tests positive after flight from US

An Air New Zealand crew member has tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving on a flight from America three days ago.

The Ministry of Health says the result was part of compulsory testing required within 48 hours of operating to the United States.

The person self-isolated in a facility used by the airline's crew and is being transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.

They are currently showing no signs of the virus and the Ministry says the test result indicates that it is a very new infection.

The Ministry said all other air crew on the flight have returned negative results and will remain in isolation.

"The risk to the general public is considered low."

It said it will continue to investigate the case and any further information will be provided tomorrow.

A Covid-19 update was not scheduled to take place today, as the Health Ministry reduces the number of updates it provides.
