12 injured in Five Rivers tourist bus crash
Twelve people have been injured in a tourist bus crash in Southland.
Emergency services were called to the Athol Five Rivers Highway at Lowther, shortly before 8.30am on Tuesday, with black ice reported in the area.
Police said the bus was part of a Chinese tour group heading to Queenstown and Milford Sound.
St John said 12 patients were assessed at the scene.
Four were taken to Invercargill Hospital - one in a serious condition, two in a moderate condition and one with minor injuries.
The remaining eight patients received minor injuries.
The south-bound lane of road is still closed.
Police said people should drive to the conditions and watch for black ice during cold times of the day.
