$1m playground to open in Queenstown next week

Queenstown will officially open a new playground worth close to $1 million next week.

The original budget for the Queenstown Gardens Commemorative Playspace was $670,000, but it was quickly revised by more than $300,000.

At the time, Queenstown Lakes District Council community services manager Thunes Cloete said the increase reflected the higher construction costs due to meeting design and safety standards.

Work started on the destination playground located at the CBD entrance to the Queenstown Gardens earlier this year. It was completed on time.

It will be officially opened on 5 October at 3pm, with an opening Karakia and an address by mayor Jim Boult.
