Significant damage after Cromwell laundromat engulfed by flames
A fire investigator will be at the scene this morning after local firefighters battled a blaze at a business in Cromwell well into Monday night.
Two crews from Cromwell requested back up after arriving at the laundromat on Traders Lane a little before nine last night.
A spokesperson for Fire and Emergency New Zealand says when the first crews arrived, "the building was well alight".
A command unit from Alexandra and an extra truck and crew from Clyde were called in as reinforcement.
The firefighters worked until approximately 1am to extinguish all hotspots.
The fire was "predominantly in the rear of the building".
The spokesperson says they are not aware of anyone having been evacuated from the building at the time of the fire.
"A fire investigator will attend this morning to establish the cause."
The Pacific Linen Laundromat is located in the town's industrial area off McNulty Road, and it offers both self-service, dry-cleaning and commercial laundry options.
The laundromat shares a commercial building with several other local businesses, including Hynds and a driving school. Across the lane is a doctors' clinic.
