Our regular weekly content for Crux subscribers (free and paid) is now published on Substack.

Our top stories this week.

  • Partly treated effluent from the failing Shotover sewage plant is now lying in a ditch just one metre from the Twin Rivers Trail / Queenstown public bike trail. The sewage is leaking both through the temporary wall that surrounds the Shotover disposal field and also from the water table beneath the field.

  • An experienced Queenstown wastewater networks manager has taken his case to the Employment Relations Authority (ERA) after being dismissed by multinational corporation Veolia over his use of robust language when asked to train an inexperienced newcomer with “no knowledge” to become his new boss.
  • We have been looking at how a QLDC manager appears to have suddenly become the Regional Manager for Veolia - and who then can’t explain how a local contractor was used, and paid, to build a controversial wall at the failing Shotover sewage plant – without resource consent.
  • Property owners in Queenstown Lakes District will soon receive new three-yearly rating valuations in the post.
