Man arrested in Queenstown after dogs find drugs

A Queenstown man has appeared in court today on multiple charges, including possession of cocaine, ketamine, and LSD for supply, after drug dogs were used to search a number of local properties.

Detective Sergeant Mark McCloy says the 37 year old is one of two people who have been arrested following the execution of search warrants in both the Southern and Canterbury districts last week.

He says the drug dog team assisted with the searches in the Queenstown area.

The local man was remanded in custody prior to his court appearance today.

In Canterbury, the organised crime unit carried out simultaneous searches, locating cash and more than 100 grams of cocaine.

There, a 61-year-old man was remanded in custody for several charges - possession of cocaine, ketamine, LSD, and cannabis for supply also among them.

He is due in court at a later date.

"Police continue to target those who supply these drugs, which have the potential to cause extreme harm and damage in our communities," the detective sergeant says in a statement to media announcing the arrests.

"We ask members of the public who know those supplying these drugs to contact us on 105.

"Information can also be reported to your local police station or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"We also encourage anyone affected by drug addiction to seek help though the Alcohol and Drug helpline on 0800 787 797, or free text 8681."
