Developer quashes Wānaka Burger King rumours

Burger King is not coming to Wānaka's BP service station at the Three Parks development despite construction seen onsite and social media chatter.

Shortly after McDonald's rumours have turned from fiction to fact for Wānaka, the town gossip mill has moved on to question if another fast food retailer is coming in, specifically at this fuel stop on Tim Wallis Drive.

However local BP staff say the petrol station is putting in two new electric vehicle charging parks and associate wiring for them, not a drive-thru for the fast food chain.

Construction happening at the BP roundabout.

The staff member says they'd also seen comment on local Facebook groups about Burger King coming to their work, but there's no truth to them.

Three Parks developer Allan Dippie says "it's not a happening thing" when asked today (July 4) if Burger King was coming, but gave permission to fuel the speculation.

"I haven't heard that...and I probably would have if it was a true rumour...If you think it's true, report that, and it will give everyone something to argue the pros and cons on."

He noted there're already a large number of other food retailers at the centre for people to visit.

Burger King has been approached for comment on any expansion plans in the area.
