WorkSafe launches enquiry into Queenstown concrete truck incident

A large concrete pumping truck was involved in an incident this morning at the site of the $130 million luxury extension to the Kamana Lakehouse Hotel on Fernhill Road, Queenstown.

A truck from Leonards Concrete Pumping Ltd was seen lying at a steep angle above the site, with part of a wooden fence collapsed.

An employee of Leonards confirmed to Crux that none of their staff had been hurt in the incident but declined to provide further details.

Worksafe issued the following statement to Crux:

"WorkSafe is aware of this morning’s incident involving concrete pumping on Fernhill Road. We are currently making enquiries to determine next steps."

A Facebook post from Leonards on May 25th this year indicated that the truck was a new purchase.

The main construction companies on the site, McMillan Civil and 3Eyes, both declined to comment.

Auckland-based Hallion Architects, on their website, say their brief was to design "the ultimate luxury accommodation in Queenstown".

The project involves 19 luxury residences in 10 separate buildings, plus a central facilities building. The residences range from 300 square metre, three-bedroom units to a 1200 square metre, 10-bedroom ‘presidential annex’.
