Warning signs erected on Queenstown beach after sewage overflow
The cause of a sewage overflow to a beach on the Frankton Arm of Lake Wakatipu is under investigation.
Warning signs have been erected on the lakeshore near central Queenstown advising members of the public of the potential health risk from swimming or fishing at the location.
A spokesperson for the council says the signs were put in place Monday morning after a sewage overflow on Park Street.
"We’re currently investigating the cause," the spokesperson says.
Water samples have been sent away for testing and the signs will need to remain until final results are received.
"All being well, we expect to take the signs down on Friday at the latest."
Park Street runs alongside the Queenstown Gardens before turning sharply to follow the lake edge and ending at the Frankton Track.
