Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board brings meeting to Cardrona
In what he thinks is a first, Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board chair Simon Telfer is bringing this week's board meeting to Cardrona.
The historic Cardrona Hall will provide a meeting space, and members of the public are welcome to attend.
Since taking on the leadership role, Mr Telfer has chaired community board meetings in Luggate and Hāwea, in addition to the regular set up in Wānaka.
And, on Thursday, at 10am, it will be Cardrona's turn to play host.
"From memory, I advocated for this initiative and then worked with the governance team to make it happen," Mr Telfer says.
"It's important that we engage with the wider Upper Clutha community as much as we can...It will also make it easier for local residents to attend the meetings if they wish. Next year I am keen to see if we can also hold a meeting in Makarora."
Included on Thursday's agenda, retrospective approval for the removal of the right turning option into Ardmore Street from State Highway 84, a New Years Eve road closure, next steps to clean up 101 Ballantyne Road for future sports fields, and a chair's report.
But before any formal discussion begins, Mr Telfer is extending an invite for a more informal chat.
He says Cardrona locals can "come and have a cup of tea" at 9.30am to "continue to build relationships and engage...and for them to share their ideas with us".
The Cardrona Hall is located at 2282 Cardrona Valley Road.
A spokesperson for the council says a recording of the meeting will also be made available on the council's YouTube channel.
