Wānaka man dies in car crash

by Kim Bowden - Jan 18, 2022

Police can confirm the man who died at the scene of a road crash yesterday near Wānaka Airport was Martin Charles Te-Au, 39, of Wānaka.

A police spokesperson says police were alerted to the crash on State Highway 6 just south of the airport at 4.20am.

Mr Te-Au was the sole occupant of the car, which was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

Police will continue with enquiries in relation to the death on behalf of the Coroner, who will release their finding in due course.

Other traffic was initially diverted off the main road while emergency services were at the scene.

Police have extended their thoughts and deepest sympathies to Mr Te-Au's loved ones.
