Video: Queenstown's Alice Robinson takes her fifth World Cup gold
Copper Mountain, Colorado, USA (30 November 2025) – Alice Robinson (Queenstown, 23) has won the Copper Mountain FIS Giant Slalom World Cup race, marking her career fifth World Cup victory and a brilliant start to her 2025/26 season.
Robinson explained; “It’s amazing, it was definitely a day of two different runs. The first run I felt so in control and so smooth and then the second run I felt out of control and like I was recovering the whole time, so I was shocked to see the green light at the finish! I wasn’t feeling that confident coming into this race, so I am really proud of myself, I trusted my instinct and skied how I wanted to ski, it’s like a dream.”
Robinson took a convincing lead of 0.60 seconds in the first run, executing a flawless performance on the aggressive, early season Colorado snow. She further built on her advantage in run two to take the win by 0.96 seconds, an incredible margin for a sport that often sees the podium decided by just hundredths of a second.
Robinson was joined on the podium by Austria’s Julia Scheib in second place, with Thea Louise Stjernesund of Norway rounding out the podium in third.
Robinson shared how previously she has let past performances affect her next performance, and after being disappointed by her eighth-place finish at the season opener in Sölden last month she was proud to have proven to herself today that she can pick herself back up and deliver exceptional skiing.
Today’s win has also resulted in Robinson becoming the most successful female alpine ski racer of all time from a non-North American/non-European country, a huge achievement for Alice and a hugely proud moment for the New Zealand ski racing community.
Thrilled to learn this statistic, Robinson said; “It’s always really special for me to represent New Zealand, especially in a sport like ski racing that is so dominated by North America and Europe, so I am really proud of that!”
The 2025/26 FIS Alpine World Cup Tour continues throughout December, with Robinson expected to race almost every weekend between now and the New Year in both Giant Slalom and Speed events as she prepares for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games in February.
