A motorist has been taken to hospital by helicopter after their vehicle entered the Rees River at the head of Lake Wakatipu.
A police spokesperson says emergency services received a call at approximately 8.45am reporting a vehicle had gone into the river at the main road bridge.
The bridge is on the road between Glenorchy and Kinloch.
"The sole occupant has since been helicoptered to the Queenstown Lakes hospital in a moderate to serious condition," the spokesperson says.
