Two helicopters help contain Kingston blaze

Five local crews and two helicopters have managed to contain a vegetation fire south of Kingston this morning.

Fire and Emergency South Island shift manager Lyn Cross says a property owner requested help at 6.20am for what had started as a controlled burn on their land.

The fire covered two to three hectares of the farm property, located between Kingston and Garston, roughly 50 kilometres south of Queenstown.

Ms Cross says the owner was "not happy" with the blaze and two crews from Kingston, two from Garston and one from Athol responded, assisting by "putting a lot of water" on it.

The two helicopters were released at 9.30am, and Ms Cross says the remaining crews will be heading off shortly.

She says the team at FENZ were happy to assist and also with how the operation went.
