St John responded to man's death on Lake Dunstan Cycle Trail.

Hato Hone St John disputes any difficulty in locating an emergency call on the Lake Dunstan Cycle Trail, where a man died following a medical incident on Sunday.

“Hato Hone St John can confirm it received a 111 call at 2.43pm on Sunday, relating to an incident on the Lake Dunstan trail,” a Hato Hone St John spokesperson said.

“The caller provided an initial approximate location and using our standard 111 GPS system, we were able to locate the caller’s position at 2.46pm.

“Two helicopters and road units were tasked with the job at 2.47pm.”

Reports in some local media this morning suggested the 111 call dispatcher had difficulty in understanding the remote location of the trail.

However, the St John spokesperson gave a differing explanation.

"A call taker may request further details, including whether there is road access, in the event that additional resourcing (such as ambulances or rapid response vehicles) may be required to support the response.”
