SH6 road fatality victim fell from cliff
A Japanese man who was run over on State Highway 6 near Queenstown's bungy bridge had fallen from a cliff before the incident, police say.
Ryoma Seki, 22, died at about 10pm on Monday, 3 March.
He'd been hit by a Kiwi driver on SH6 near the Kawarau Bridge, who stopped and called the emergency services. Seki was wearing dark clothing and police initially appealed for help to identify him, along with asking for dashcam footage and witnesses.
"Our enquiries have determined Ryoma fell from a cliff prior to being hit by a vehicle however, the cause of death is determined by the Coroner," a police spokesperson says.
Police say they are not looking to file charges in relation to this matter.
"Police extend our condolences to his family and provide them with support during this difficult time."
