Seating and netball courts upgrade for Queenstown Events Centre

Work starts this week on a $700,000-upgrade of the Queenstown Events Centre.

Two tenders have been awarded by Queenstown Lakes District Council for work on the indoor sports and event facility in Frankton.

“The Grandstand Seating Project Plan’s project cost is $149,766 plus GST for a new unit and install and $3,900 plus GST for removal of existing seating,” a QLDC spokesperson said.

“Work is expected to start and finish in mid-to-late February.”

Maxwood Manufacturing Ltd., in Christchurch was awarded the tender for the work, which will increase the numbers of seats by four to 190.

“The Outdoor Courts Upgrade Project Plan is expected to cost $538,944.00 plus GST.  Work is starting this week, and we expect the courts to reopen in April,” the spokesperson said.

The tender to resurface the six existing outdoor netball courts was awarded to Auckland-based Hardwood Technology Ltd.

QLDC also plans to temporarily reopen the netball courts from January 21 to February 9.
