Richie McCaw's family say goodbye Christchurch - hello Wānaka

Gemma McCaw has announced that she and husband Richie, and their three children, are moving to Wānaka and leaving their life in Christchurch behind.

"It’s time to say goodbye to Christchurch as we embark on a new adventure in Wānaka.

"For the past 10 years, this city has been my home. It’s where we welcomed our three beautiful girls into the world, and where I arrived knowing only a handful of people and now leave with lifelong friends.

"I’ll miss so much about this city, but most of all, I’ll miss my people.

"We are very excited about this move down south and a lifestyle full of adventure that awaits. It’s everything we’ve dreamed of for raising our girls, and we can’t wait to live in one of most beautiful places in the world."

The couple already have a house sorted near Lake Hāwea.

Architectural plans show the new house will have plenty of room for the family of five.

The master, complete with walk-in-wardrobe, office and ensuite, will make the most of the site’s views of the Hāwea River.

The McCaws are already very familiar with Wānaka - including Roy's Peak.

Gemma McCaw gives no exact date for the family to move into their new Wānaka home.
