Here's the full statement from Deputy Mayor Quentin Smith.
“It’s been an honour to represent Wānaka–Upper Clutha for the past nine years, and—voters willing—I hope to continue that journey,” said Smith. “It’s a tough job at times, but it’s one I believe in and genuinely enjoy. I value engaging with the community and representing their interests around the Council table.”
“These are uncertain times—both locally and globally—but I remain committed to doing my part to ensure our infrastructure, environment, and community services keep pace. That requires a strategic, well-informed, and above all, engaged approach.”
When asked about the mayoralty, Smith said: “I haven’t ruled out a mayoral campaign. I’ll wait to see how things unfold and plan to make a call in late July.”
