Queenstown NYE room rates average $614, smashing records
Paying for a hotel room to see in 2024 in Queenstown cost more than ever, with fresh data showing visitors paid an average of $614 for a place to stay on December 31.
Tourism industry news website Tourism Ticker has today published figures provided by international hotel analytics company STR, showing the ADR or average daily rate in the southern hotspot for the last night of 2023 was $75 more than it had been the previous year.
"Queenstown’s performance set a new bar for a major New Zealand hotel market and helped drive ADR across the country on New Year’s Eve to a national record of $348.63," Tourism Ticker's Paul Yandall reports.
As well as being pricey, Queenstown hotels were busy, with occupancy rates consistently topping 90 percent in the days leading up to New Year's Eve, and reaching 92.5 percent on the big night itself, before peaking at more than 93.5 percent on January 4, according to the report.
In comparison, occupancy across the country on New Year's Eve was more than 83.5 percent.

STR collects daily accommodation data from from 67 percent of all hotel rooms in Queenstown.
