QLDC's Boundary Street car park: no lit signs and an invisible yellow line

Following our publication earlier today of the $70 parking ticket issued during this week's after dark mayoral debate for using a night time "prohibited area" within the QLDC's Boundary Street car park we went back to check on signage.

In daylight hours there's quite a few warning signs that rely on "don't park inside the yellow lines after 7.00 pm" - but none of these signs are lit by street lamps or car park lighting.

Visible by day but only when you drive into the car park - no lighting at night .

BUT .... this image is taken from inside the faded yellow lines and they are simply not visible even in daylight.

Even in broad daylight the yellow lines are almost impossible to see - especially, and ironically, when you are inside the yellow lines.

Crux readers have posted multiple comments saying they been caught in the same trap, they've seen Cougar Security parking people virtually "entrapping" drivers by hiding in the shadows and then issuing a ticket rather than telling people about the invisible (daylight) signs and invisible (day or night) yellow line. Nobody has ever seen a tour bus parked there - which is apparently the reason for this entire "prohibited area."

This is the actual image used by QLDC and Cougar security as "evidence of illegal parking" and "within signage" by Crux. Needless to say we could not see any yellow lines or signs at all.

We've formed the view that this "prohibited area" is unenforceable due to insufficient signage and QLDC's failure to use the space for the declared purpose of overnight tour bus parking. Instead it seems a blatant revenue trap against local residents. Visitors of course will skip the country or leave town with no plan to ever pay the parking fine.
