Power outages hit Queenstown CBD, Arrowtown and surrounds

#UPDATE 12PM: Fernhill, Mount Creighton, Sunshine Bay and Closeburn are now also impacted, with a further 1,753 customers unexpectedly without power.

Residents and businesses in the Queenstown CBD as well as neighbourhoods in and around Arrowtown are in the dark as to why power has gone out this morning.

On its website Aurora Energy says an unplanned outage is affecting more than a dozen streets in Queenstown's main centre, including Shotover, Church, Camp and Brecon Streets, where power was lost just before 10am.

It says a response crew is investigating the cause.

Some 346 customers are impacted.

Meanwhile, an earlier unplanned outage, over a smaller area of the town centre, is said to have impacted 82 customers, with the lines company blaming ''third party interference" for it.

Both outages were expected to be resolved by 10.15am, according to the website.

Elsewhere, more than 3,000 customers have also been without power since just before 10am.

Arrow Junction, Arrowtown, Dalefield, Gibbston, Lake Hayes, Wye Creek, and Speargrass Flat are all listed as impacted by the lines company.

Crux has asked Aurora Energy for an update on the situation.

In the meantime, some details are on the company's outages page: Aurora Energy power outages
