Plan for holiday highway closures at Five Rivers
Road works are scheduled to begin from next week on a section of road on a popular travel route south of Queenstown.
During the day stop-go traffic management will be in place close to the intersection of State Highways 6 and 97 for four weeks, while overnight the road will need to be closed for one week.
The New Zealand Transport Agency says 30-kilometres-per-hour speed restrictions are needed for the duration of the works, which will involve resurfacing and reconstruction of the road.
A detour will be set up when the road is closed, and motorists are being told to expect to add 30 minutes to their journeys.
Some of the works are scheduled to occur during the end of term three school holidays.
The details:
- Stop-go traffic management will operate between Mossburn-Five Rivers Road and Lowther Road from Monday, September 16 to Friday, October 11, between 7am and 6pm daily
- A road closure is expected from Monday, September 30 to Monday, October 7, between 6.30am and 6.30pm daily
