Person in critical condition after Lake Hayes incident

A person is in a critical condition after collapsing in Queenstown's Lake Hayes Estate this afternoon.

An ambulance and rescue helicopter were both called to Nerin Square in the centre of the suburb shortly after 3.00 pm.

The helicopter landed in the centre of Nerin Square just metres from the incident outside The Hayes restaurant and cafe.

The following statement was issued to Crux by the ambulance service:

"Hato Hone St John were notified of an incident in Lake Hayes at 3:04 pm, and we sent one helicopter and one ambulance to the scene.

"One patient was assessed and then transported to Lakes District Hospital in a critical condition."

A vehicle belonging to Helicopters Otago, the operators of the medical helicopter service, also attended the scene with additional supplies for the helicopter.
