ORC election results finalised

Election results have now been finalised for the Otago Regional Council with no changes to the Dunstan Ward.

Michael Laws, Gary Kelliher, Matt Hollyer and Neil Gillespie will represent the Dunstan Ward for the next three years.

Laws said the results “represent a new era for the Central Lakes region and the real opportunity to advocate for much improved policies and services for our area. We’ve suffered from Dunedin’s dictates for too long.

“There are massive challenges ahead of us - from protecting and preserving our outstanding lakes, to having an effective pest plan that actually works, to reducing Dunedin’s appetite for our ratepayer monies, to representing our communities when it comes to fast-track projects. 

“That’s going to take both organisation and advocacy on the part of the four elected reps. We have the mandate and our community’s faith. Now we need to put that into action and keep reporting back as to progress or otherwise.”

Laws received 5930 votes, Kelliher received 3616, Hollyer fetched 3516 and Gillespie received 2733 votes.
