Noelene Tait, 84 - the local who died in yesterday's fatal crash

Police have released the name of the local person killed in yesterday's fatal Frankton Road accident. She was Noelene Margaret Tait, aged 84 of Kelvin Heights, Queenstown.

Mrs Tait was a violinist with the Arrowtown Miners Band, as well as being a music teacher.

Noelene Tait was a member of the Arrowtown Miners Band - she is fifth from the right.

Her car, which was badly damaged in yesterday's accident, had the distinctive number plate - Fiddler. One social media post said simply "RIP FIDDLER. WONT BE THE SAME NOT SEEING YOU AROUND ANYMORE."

A 29 year old tourist will appear in the Queenstown District Court on Monday on a charge of careless vehicle operation causing death and two charges of careless vehicle operation causing injury.  It is understood that the vehicle crossed the centre line and hit both Mrs Tait's car and a motorcyclist. The man on the motorbike was flown to Dunedin Hospital for urgent surgery.

A woman in the car being driven by the tourist received only minor injuries..
