Police appeal again for information on Wānaka brawl

Police have yet to identify or charge any of the 300 young people involved in a Wānaka mass brawl on New Year's Day.

To-date no arrests have been made.

“Enquiries are ongoing,” a Police spokesperson said today.

"Police continue to appeal to anyone with information or footage of the incident on New Years Day that may assist in identifying those involved to please contact Police.

“You can contact us on 105 either online or over the phone and reference file number: 250105/4586.”

The incident happened on New year’s Day night, resulting in Police being called to Dinosaur Park around midnight, following a report of about 300 young people gathered there and multiple fights breaking out.

At least three serious assaults were reported, involving young people being knocked unconscious, along with numerous other more minor assaults.

Much of the blame for the incident has been directed at excessive drinking of alcohol and young people in the town during summer holidays mainly from Christchurch, Timaru and Dunedin.
