Local driver harassed by QLDC over "inconsiderate" parking case

A local driver has told Crux that she and her partner are being harassed by the Queenstown Lakes District Council over a $60 "inconsiderate parking" ticket that the driver says is ridiculous.

The driver says that when they first arrived in the Boundary Street car park another car was parked partly into the space they needed to use, so they made room for that car, putting them in contact with a yellow car park line (not an official road marking) on the other side of the parking space.

"We were using a fully paid parking ticket and our vehicle was not causing any inconvenience to other cars" says the driver, who does not wish to be named.

"The council refused to even discuss our waiver request. We were not allowed to speak to anyone. Now we are being harassed by the council with the threat of court action if we don't pay the ticket."

The driver was told online by the QLDC that they did not qualify for a waiver request. Phone calls to the council offices did not result in any success in speaking to a parking manager.

In an email to Crux the driver adds:

"I have attached the photos; our vehicle is touching the yellow line with its back tire.  This is pure harassment, and now we are being threatened to pay the ticket or be taken to court.

"The QLDC council are ruthless, and there needs to be a review of how they conduct themselves."
