Letter drop alleges Lake Hayes cyclist assaulted by teens
A complaint has been made to police after a cyclist says she was assaulted by two teens while travelling on Slopehill Road near Lake Hayes in Queenstown last week.
A person connected to the incident has documented their version of events in a letter that has been dropped in mailboxes in the area.
It says two teenagers on an electric motorbike assaulted the woman while she was riding her bike along the road in the direction of Frankton.
"While they did this the passenger on the bike was filming this on a mobile phone," the letter says.
"She was unable to see where they went as they sped off."
A police spokesperson has confirmed to Crux police were notified at approximately 4pm on Wednesday (October 9) of an incident, "where a person reported having a foodstuff thrown at them while they were on on a bike trail" on Slopehill Road.
"There were no injuries and those alleged to have been involved had left the scene. The victim was asked to present to a station so a full report could be taken."
The spokesperson is unable to confirm if this follow-up report was received.
The writer of the letter says a complaint was "logged with police", and they appeal to parents in the community to raise the issue with their children to "make them aware that there are consequences to their actions".
"I ask you, how would you feel if this was your daughter, your partner or your wife?"
The letter is one of several attempts by local residents in recent days to spark some sort of collective responsibility for alleged bad behaviour.
A post over the weekend on a Lake Hayes Estate and Shotover Country community Facebook page claims four young teenage boys were seen throwing stones at vehicles on Ladies Mile and kicking parked cars along Hope Avenue in the early hours of the morning.
The post says police were called, but by the time they arrived "the kids had run off to Walnut Grove area".
"If you know these kids please let them know how dangerous this is. It's not the first time and someone travelling at 100 kilometres per hour could get seriously hurt."
