Latest poll results: Glover leads QLDC mayoral race

The latest results are in for the Crux QLDC election poll #3 with some dramatic developments.

The poll sample was 714 respondents between September 19 and September 22 with the margin of error at 4%.

Mayoral Contest.

John Glover has moved into a strong position capturing 51.5% of the preferred/first option votes with a weighted average score of 3.18.

Darren Rewi has dropped into second place with 22.9% of preferred/first option votes with a weighted average score of 2.73.

Nik Kiddle is in third place with 15.56% of preferred/first option votes with a weighted average score of 2.51.

Current mayor Glyn Lewers is in fourth place with 10.4 % of preferred/first option votes with a weighted average score of 1.58.

The results show John Glover gaining a lot of ground at the expense of Darren Rewi with the poll results on September 8 giving Darren Rewi 35% of the preferred vote and John Glover 32%.

Mayor Lewers has slipped from 12% to 10%.

Queenstown- Wakatipu Ward.

In the race for four councillors to be elected in the Queenstown-Wakatipu Ward it’s a tight one/two contest with Gavin Bartlett and Jon Mitchell leading on 38% and 26% of the preferred first votes. On a weighted average basis Stephen Brent is in second place - but either way the bottom three (only four of the seven will be elected) remain as Ferguson, Cowie and Smith. Matt Wong has improved from 10% (Poll #2) to 14% of preferred first votes.

Arrowtown- Kawarau Ward.

Melissa White stays in a strong lead with 58% (up from 52%) of the first/preferred votes - and a weighted average of 4.25. Samuel Belk has dropped from 22% to 17% in the first vote category but stays on 3.62 weighted average. Heath Copland is now in third place (only three will be elected) moving up from 7% to 11% in first votes but static on weighted average. Lisa Guy has fallen from 14% of preferred/first votes to 8.7%. Tim Manning is a distant fifth.

Wānaka- Upper Clutha Ward.

Niki Gladding and Quentin Smith remain the two strong leaders here. Niki has dropped slightly from 54% to 51% of preferred/first votes and Quentin has risen from 17% to 22%.

But then its a huge drop back to third and fourth places. On weighted averages the race is between Cody Tucker and Nicola King - but on preferred/first votes it’s a race between Cody Tucker and Barry Bruce. Craig Gasson is also in the running - but Cocks, Mccarthy and Westphal are in spots 7, 8 and 9. Four candidates will be elected.

Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board.
