Investigation underway into Queenstown rental fire
Fire investigators were at the scene of an overnight Queenstown fire this morning that left up to 10 people suffering from smoke inhalation and minor injuries.
More than 20 firefighters and ambulance personnel attended the blaze at 30 Fryer Street around 11.00 pm last night.
The property is a multi unit rental with six seperate units worth up to $850,000 each with some rented as short term visitor accommodation for over $500 a night.
An overseas couple at the property this morning identified themselves as the owners but refused to provide any further details beyond saying that only two people suffered from the effects of the fire.
Property records show the owners as being an Australian investment firm, McCourt Capital Pty Ltd.
Police have told Crux today that they understand that cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious.
Crux asked QLDC if there was any issue with compliance at the property, their response was:
"QLDC is not in a position to provide comment at this time. We will continue to liaise with FENZ and MBIE on this matter."
