Four in custody after Cromwell arson
Four people have been taken into custody by police following an arson near Cromwell this afternoon.
A police spokesperson says at around 1.20pm staff were called to Kawarau Gorge Road - State Highway Six - after a group of people were seen setting fire to a tree.
On arrival, the four people were taken into custody.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews also attended and were able to put out the fire in approximately ten minutes.
Police continue to make inquiries.
They say no one was injured.
