One person has died this morning following a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 6 in Queenstown.

Traffic comes to a standstill near Arthur's Point, as motorists are diverted off State Highway 6 following a fatal crash on Ladies Mile.

Motorists are being told to expect delays heading in and out of town on Ladies Mile and via Arthur's Point after the crash at the Stalker Road-Lower Shotover Road roundabout.

Police say the Serious Crash Unit remains at the scene and the road is closed.

While traffic travelling from Lake Hayes to Queenstown is not seriously impacted at this time, traffic travelling from Queenstown to Lake Hayes is being diverted via Arthurs Point.

In a statement, police say, "We continue to encourage motorists to avoid the area, if possible".

A witness speaking to Crux says the crash appears to have involved a ute, towing a boat.

Other emergency services have also been at the scene, including ambulance and fire service crews.

A spokesperson for Hato Hone St John says it sent two ambulances to the scene at 9.30am, while a helicopter that was on standby was stood down.

Traffic has been at a standstill in the area for much of the morning.
