Detective team investigating Wānaka body in lake

Police have told Crux that a team of detectives is investigating the death of a person whose body was found in Lake Wānaka on New Year's Eve.

The body was found near Waterfall Creek.

Officers were called to the location at 7.42am on Sunday, where the body was found.

No name has yet been released but the body has now been released to the family.

Police have also revealed that a post-mortem has been completed.

A police spokesperson says they are providing support to the family at this difficult time, and that enquiries into the death are ongoing.
