Destination Queenstown cancels promotional festival

This statement has just been released by Destination Queenstown.

"Over the weekend the New Zealand Government announced significant measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in New Zealand.

These measures include the requirement for every person entering New Zealand, including returning New Zealand citizens and residents, to self-isolate for 14-days from the date of departure.

The Prime Minister also indicated that further guidelines on mass gatherings will be announced early this week.

Based on this announcement, and reflecting that this is an ongoing and evolving situation, Destination Queenstown has made the difficult decision to postpone our Adventure Festival event, which was due to be held this Thursday 19 March. However we are pleased to announce that we are looking at moving the event into this year’s Real Journeys Queenstown Winter Festival programme.

Once this option has been fully explored we will share further details.

While this is disappointing, we feel this is the correct decision to take in the best interests of our community. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our community for their amazing support of this event, we had over 1500 local folk registered to attend this event, as well as international trade and media representation.

DQ’s interim CEO, Ann Lockhart, said while it was disappointing it has been very encouraging to see so much local support.

“It certainly shows a great interest in celebrating Queenstown’s adventurous culture. We are delighted that our local community are so keen to share in that with us. Ideally we will try to integrate the Adventure Festival into the Winter Festival programme and will share more information about this shortly.”

DQ will be in contact with all ticket holders to share information of the postponement.

The Queenstown Adventure Festival is a celebration of Queenstown’s pioneering and adventurous spirit and is a free community event with activities, speakers and adventure content."
