Crux re-launch - what's changed, what's free, what's paid
Today marks the return of a new slimmer version of Crux due to changes that many of you will be aware of - a distressed advertising market, changing audience trends, selective financial support from local councils and the shutdown of Government support for journalism.
Following a period of hibernation Crux has had to cut staff and costs in order to re-publish.
Our hope is that fresh news media funding and business models emerge in the future but here's how Crux wil operate in the interim.
First of all, the following content will be on our Substack channel for paid subscribers only. We will run a series of free 7 day trials over the coming months.
- Original local investigative journalism
- Feature articles
- Podcasts
- Guest columns
- Background and explanatory articles
- Consumer and fair behaviour support - standing up for people who've had a raw deal.
- Local council, local politics and local election coverage.
On the Crux website, free of charge, will be:
- National and regional news from RNZ and other content partners
- Breaking news
- Public service type announcements
- Media releases around police, council and roads
- Short versions (delayed) of key stories from the paid Substack channel
What will be on Crux Facebook.
- Links to breaking news (free)
- Links to public service articles (free)
- Links to content partners national and regional stories (free)
- Summaries of what's on and what's coming up on the paid Substack channel (paid).
