Clyde superstar skater earns spot on international team
Dedicated Clyde figure skater Bridey Sangster has qualified for the international figure skating team selection after years of hard work.
Training before and after school, the aspiring athlete is looking forward to what's ahead.
"My ideal place to go would be Canada, I've always loved the idea of going there, my parents went there and it just seems like a big version of New Zealand."
In last month's Clucas Cup, held in Dunedin, Bridey won gold in the intermediate novice, earning her place in the New Zealand international team selection.
Bridgey's been put on the B team, which gives rising athletes the chance to be exposed to international competitions, and achieved the top position for her particular grade.
Bridey started at KiwiSkate school at the Alexandra Ice Skating Club and now splits her time between her home-town Clyde and training in Dunedin and completing school by distance.
The young athlete first put skates on when she started to walk, and says she loves how "free you feel on the ice".
"It's feel like you're flying."
Her current favourite move is the "double loop" which involves two full rotations in the air.
