Young ski fanatic back with another Coronet cancer fundraiser

Forget a whiteout, a young skiing enthusiast is planning to turn a Queenstown mountain yellow on Friday.

Lochie Win is on a mission to add even more money to his already significant fundraising efforts in aid of the Cancer Society.

And he is asking for the help of skiers and snowboarders on Coronet Peak to do it.

Lochie will be on the slopes with ten or so of his mates shaking donation buckets and selling daffodil pins.

He'll be easy to spot - he is planning to wear a yellow jumpsuit and cape, and he hopes others heading up the mountain may feel inspired to don something yellow too.

There will be a station set up out the front of the base building, and anyone who donates will be in the draw to win some awesome prizes, donated by businesses Lochie has had a ring round of himself.

Lochie's motivation is close to home.

"One in three people get cancer, and my mum was one of those people. The Cancer Society was super helpful, so...I've been trying to return the favour."

A year six pupil at Cromwell Primary School, Lochie has already built a legacy over recent years with some madcap ski fundraisers.

Dad Luke Win says Lochie has managed to make close to $60,000 over four years for the cancer charity.

When he was six, Lochie's fundraising challenge was to ski Cardrona's slopes for 40 days to celebrate the alpine resort's 40th birthday; a year later, father and son made it their goal to ski every field in New Zealand, starting south and heading north.

"The ski fields around New Zealand have been pretty blimmin good to him with all the stuff that he's done, especially NZSki," Luke says.

This year, Lochie and his mates on their principal-approved day off school will have 1,000 daffodils to sell.

"They're all pretty excited," Lochie says, "Especially missing a day of school."

Thanks to the crew at Coronet Peak, they will have Eftpos machines to collect payments, but they will take cash too.

All funds collected will be donated to the Cancer Society.
