We have a winner! Bush Creek Ice Rink celebrated with beanie giveaway

Jul 18, 2024

Love and support has rolled in for Arrowtown's local Bush Creek Ice for Crux's giveaway.

Earlier in the week, Crux announced that one Bush Creek Ice fan could win an exclusive beanie by sharing what they love about the local rink.

There were a delightful number of entries from as far as Christchurch, that have eloquently described the spirit of the rink.

The winner is Katherine Tarr who says that everyone "feels welcome at the rink".

"From the lady who shared her marshmallows with us to the boys who offered my daughter a private skating lesson for 20cents."

An honourable mention to Gerard Hyland who crafted a Haiku poem about the rink in his entry, which is as follows:

Arrowtown's charm shines,                                                                                                          Skates glide on the frosty rink,                                                                                                    Mountains embrace still.

Bush Creek Ice is run off donations and volunteers, and the team behind the rink launched the beanies as a way to bring some income in.

They're still available by messaging Bush Creek Ice on Facebook for $30.

Other reasons why people love Bush Creek Ice:

"The fact that it's bought the community together and showcases the hard work from volunteers."

"The Bush Creek Ice Skating Rink is the perfect combination of Arrowtown's local spirit, historic character and landscape beauty."

"These people are great! So nice to know local families can have some fun together without having to worry about the budget."

"Love the community connections and freedom our kids get in (the) natural environment skating their hearts out."

"It will always be special as it is where our children have been learning to ice skate. It's great that the rink has been set up again by the Arrowtown community."
