Queenstown gridlocked as truck breakdown backs up traffic

It's a frustrating journey into and across town for many in Queenstown this afternoon, with vehicles bumper to bumper as far back as the road to Glenorchy.

One motorist has told Crux the culprit for the gridlocked roads was a broken-down truck on Stanley Street in the CBD.

Friday go-slow for traffic into Queenstown.

She says she sat on the Glenorchy road for approximately 50 minutes before she reached the Fernhill roundabout, meaning she missed a meeting in town.

Meanwhile a worker who drives the Glenorchy route regularly for his job says the traffic was some of the worst he'd experienced in five years, and he was anxious he'd miss a plane connection this afternoon.

Crux has reported extensively on roadworks on central streets, as well as the phasing of new traffic lights on Shotover Street, which have been an ongoing cause of delays for motorists in recent months.
