Dunedin armed police sent to Central Otago incident

A convoy of police vehicles travelling from Dunedin to Central Otago was in response to a family harm incident.

A police spokesperson has confirmed an Armed Offenders Squad was deployed from Dunedin to the area on Wednesday morning "as a precaution".

Residents of communities along State Highway 8 tracked the police vehicles' movements inland into Central Otago on multiple posts to community Facebook groups across the region.

A motorist heading into Alexandra reported being passed by a dozen police vehicles with lights flashing.
