Council offices in Gorge Road closed for another week

Here's a media release from the QLDC.

"Following a diesel leak on Monday, the Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) Gorge Road office in Queenstown will remain closed for a further week.

QLDC Chief Executive Mike Theelen advised it is anticipated that the office will reopen to the public on Monday 19 November.

QLDC CEO Mike Theelen - "disruption not ideal."

“While this disruption has not been ideal for the community or for our Gorge Road staff, we have decided that while the office is vacant, to take the opportunity to complete the refresh which was already planned for this building,” said Mr Theelen.

“As diesel has soaked the carpets and some of the walls in the main office they will need to be replaced or repaired. It makes sense to accelerate the refresh now to avoid a further disruption in service for our Queenstown-Wakatipu community,” he said.

The refresh relates to the main office only and not the Library which reopened to the public on Wednesday.

“We were lucky that no diesel leaked from the main office into the Library. Before reopening, we carried out a thorough investigation and equipment tests to ensure the Library was safe for the public and our Library staff,” said Mr Theelen.

While the Gorge Road office remains closed, anyone requiring assistance or information from the Council in Queenstown-Wakatipu should visit the QLDC offices at Shotover Street. Alternatively contact QLDC staff via 03 441 0499, email [email protected], or visit www.qldc.govt.nz where a range of services are available online."
